Coast and People by Emma McLachlan
Emma Mclachlan is a contemporary Scottish artist whose paintings identify strongly with its people and environment, with a strong narrative towards its amazing coastline.
Having grown up in Troon in Ayrshire, she was always influenced by the landscape surrounding her, equally fascinated to paint scenes of her local golf course despite the alluring and constantly changing seascape that looks across the Firth of Clyde towards the lovely Isle of Arran. Having began, her art career painting primarily landscapes and seascapes. Emma found herself increasingly attracted by the movement of populations and architecture of our UK cities.
The busy scenes, and movement of people going about their daily life captivated Emma, resulting in a diverse series of paintings that presented Emma with a totally new set challenges. Painting mainly in oils, Emma layers the paint gradually to build up vibrancy and depth to each piece. Utilising eye catching perspectives and techniques, she aims to capture in her works an interesting contemporary feel.

Meditative Waters by Jennifer Guest
Jennifer gained a BA(Hons) in Art and Design from East Anglia University, and then went on to have a career as a therapist and author. Returning to making art, Jennifer now creates drawings as a full-time artist from her Scottish studio.
Jennifer’s inspired to try and capture the sensations of serenity and awe of being in the natural landscape, with the magnificent mountains and waterscapes of the Lake District and Scottish coasts special favourites.
The colour goes down first using coloured pencils. Then the ink drawing goes on top, going over the line work several times, creating an image that is similar to that of a lino or wood cut.
A special collection of contemporary landscape artworks depicting some of the most beautiful rivers, lakes and coastlines of Scotland and Cumbria. Through her artwork, Jennifer aims to capture and portray the feelings of tranquillity and wonder she feels in the wondrous waterscapes and landscapes around us in the natural world.

Exploring 20's by Stephen Warnes
The title of this exhibition is obviously a riff on ‘Roaring 20’s’ but I have chosen it because ‘Exploring 20’s’ describes some of my approach to paintings.
At any stage I have 5 or 6 on the go and I work on them in turn as my ideas about them develop, so each one becomes an exploration. It can often mean my paintings often look very different one from another!
There will, of course, be some railway paintings in the selection, for which I am known nationally through my participation in the Guild of Railway Artists' exhibitions and publications.

Capturing Moments - Val Powell
Val is a contemporary artist living in the beautiful Eden Valley between the Lake District Hills and the Pennines painting Landscapes and Still Life in oils, oil & wax, and now experimenting with acrylics. Something of a butterfly she ‘flits’ between mediums and sometimes style.
The joy of walking or cycling and the gathering in of experiences around the country and abroad gives her inspiration, the feeling of freedom, the air and winds, the atmosphere and clouds, with colour and light too all add to the emotion and excitement she feels and tries to capture from memories, sketches or photo’s.
Always trying to capture the emotions of a moment Val says. My images represent my reality, not always representative, but those strong intuitive feelings, the passion, the joy, the love, as I try to put onto canvas those emotions I feel and hopefully leaving something for the viewer to explore.

Geometry and Pattern - Roxanne Denny
With her current body of work she is going back to her roots and exploring colour and form through geometry, as well as looking at the line itself, with more heavily patterned pieces. Light is always a huge inspiration in her artwork and she considers the shadows and patterns that will be reflected and transmitted also.
Her geometry inspired pieces show her love of circles, triangles and interconnecting and concentric shapes. They have a bold use of colour and are strongly abstract. Her work focussing on the line and pattern have an almost textile like feel to them. They are produced from hundreds of hand cut pieces of glass, to create a repeating flow of line and form.

Constants of form and place - Cally Lawson
Cally began exhibiting her work in 2014, the same year she completed her Diploma in Painting & Drawing with the London Art College. A short time later, she decided to make art her full-time career. She works from her studio on the family’s farm at Burton-in-Kendal.
Cally likes being outdoors, especially fell walking. She enjoys solo hikes and hopes to capture the solitude of the high fells in her artwork. She is most drawn to the rhythm and line of the dry-stone walls, becks, ridges and paths that lead the eye through the landscape. She feels fortunate to live in the most beautiful county in England, and one that’s a never-ending source of inspiration. Her current series of local landscape paintings aim to show the unrelenting changes in weather, atmosphere and light whilst also depicting the constants of form and place. Expressive lines are drawn over the painted layers, giving the landscapes a sense of pace and movement.

Maria Burton
“This world, these places, are special - they are not to be caught or possessed - they are for all of us”
Skies, full of energy, at times, move into serenity and embrace all beneath. Fellsides become rich with intense colour and then fade to naturally merging shadows.
Wind sweeps across ridges and waters and ever-changing light moves and cascades, carving memories into hearts and minds. Nature loans its beauty just enough for me to hold a little of it, temporarily.
I am merely an interpreter.

Ruth Bond
Predominantly working in oils, I employ an impressionistic technique that uses both palette knife and brush resulting in the blended but also richly textured, vibrant style for which I have become renowned. I have established myself as a contemporary land and seascape artist, and I am richly inspired by my local Northumbrian scenery as well as my extensive travels, especially the Outer Hebrides where my fashion background influenced my choice of colours based on the famous Harris Tweeds.
